Sanabul Essentials V2 Gi Review: Simplicity Redefined

The Sanabul Essentials V 2 gi is practical, long-lasting, solid all while being comfortable.

    sanabal gi review

Sanabul Essentials Gi is lightweight and very comfortable. The jacket has a nice ''Sanabul'' written logo on it along with another small circle logo located on the right leg of the pants.

Sanabul is more or less a new brand, which offers a great variety of sportswear. The Sanabul bjj gi is also IBJJF safe and competition ready. But it’s also great for those long rolling sessions in the gym. The Sanabul Essentials Gi comes in four different colors that are black, blue, white and grey. From the aesthetic point of view, all the colors just look dope and on the other hand this kimono is extremely functional due to its contrast stitching, reinforced seams, rope drawstring and compact stitches. This kimono is designed in a very retro way but with tapered athletic cut and without all the excess Gi material and bagginess of a traditional Gi.

At first glance it’s clear the Sanabul Essentials bjj gi is good quality. At Sanabul they believe the secret to engineering a solid gi lies in their meticulous attention to details. They make sure there are no loose stitches or unfinished hems. The Essentials v.2. bjj gi comes with antimicrobial and Anti Odor treatment applied to the gi fabric to reduce the spread of bacterial and fungal infections.

    Comfort & Fit

Sanabul Essential BJJ Gi’s (kimono) tend to run lighter. This is due to the pearl weave fabric which makes for an ultra-lightweight feel. This Sanabul Essential Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is light enough that you won't have to worry about cutting extra weight and on the other hand they are strong enough that your opponents cannot maintain grips easily. This makes it easier to slip out of those sketchy positions during rolling.

It gives you a full range of motion and doesn’t cause any inconvenience during training. They are also comfortable for those hot summer training sessions and open-air competitions. Also, the Sanabul Essential BJJ gi’s material helps prevent friction from rolling.

Sanabul Essential Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi’s has all the possible sizes which makes it easy to choose the one that will fit you well. It’s essential to pinpoint that Sanabul updated their sizing, so make sure to order the right size for you (Their kimonos tend to run bigger than most of the Gi’s in the market).

    What I Didn't Like:

    1. Not IBJJF Approved:

This is an absolutely brilliant gi for a very affordable price, but if you're looking for a competition gi, then this simply isn't it.  These don't meet official IBJJF standards which means you can't use them in any IBJJF regulated competitions.  So if you're someone that is looking strictly for a competition gi, then Sanabul makes a great competition gi called the Sanabul Highlights which we'll discuss below!

    2. Sizing Is Different

I had slight issues with the pants being bigger than I thought they would be.  That being said, Sanabul has released a specific size chart for the Essentials Gi, which I've linked below!

Sanabul Essentials Gi Review: Size Chart

Good news - no more shrinking! The Essentials v.2 is a ultra-light weight Gi that comes preshrunk. For this particular bjj gi you can wash it in cold water and hang dry. However, if you find your Sanabul gi to run a bit larger you could always wash it in hot water and toss it in the dryer.

    Sanabul Highlights Gi Review

If you're looking for a high quality competition gi by Sanabul, then the Highlights is the Sanabul gi you're looking for!  This ultra light gi is designed to be a step up from the Sanabul essentials v 2, and is designed for those who are looking for the best of the best.

Manufactured out of santec light weight weave, this is the perfect material for any summer training session.  This light weight design adds to the comfort of this gi, and makes it perfect for competition.  Along with this, it features a tapered athletic cut which helps improve the fit, and also reduces weight in material.

Furthermore, although this is a single weave, this material is definitely more durable than other single weave gis i've used in the past.  I've owned this gi since it's release in 2018 and I'm still using the same one after hours and hours of hard use.

    Sanabul Highlights Key Features:

    • IBJJF Approved: Unlike the Essentials, this gi is 100% approved by the IBJJF which means it's the perfect competition gi! If you are looking to compete in an IBJJF regulated event
    • Manufactured out of Santec lightweight single weave material for added comfort and durability.

The Sanabul Highlights is definitely a professional level BJJ gi at a cost that anyone can justify.  It's fully approved by IBJJF and is extremely well suited for competition.  If you're looking for a competition gi by Sanabul then the Highlights is the one for you.

    Final Thoughts on Sanabul Gis

If you're reading this review and trying to decide whether Sanabul gis are for you or not, I suggest you pull the trigger.  They've been around in the industry and they are designed by active BJJ practitioners.  They know what it's like to roll and train, and they know what a BJJ athlete is truly looking for in a bjj gi.  I have had great experiences with my gis, and I think you will as well!
